May Day - May 1, 2023

Happy May Day!

May is such a lovely month in the countryside, full of promise and rich growth, summer visitors returning (wheatear, swallows, sand martins to mention a few) and new life everywhere.

For some preparation for the season ahead and for some full on in rearing for the season ahead. For everyone involved in field sports whether on the rivers, in deer management, on the uplands for grouse management or lowlands for pheasants and partridge we are participating in consultations to support our neighbours if not ourselves.

That’s what life is all about – treating our neighbours as ourselves and how we would wish to be treated.

The Gamekeepers’ Welfare Trust exists to support the gamekeeping community and endeavours to treat everyone as our neighbour regardless. To enable us to continue watching out for anyone who may benefit from a helping hand we are also dependent on the generosity and kindness of others.

Therefore we are immensely grateful to those who are supporting us either in events, fundraising or just telling our story and we look forward to meeting many of our gamekeeping community around the Game Fairs and other events around the country in 2023.

Our next weekend is the Northern Shooting Show where we will be offering Health Checks run by our wonderful GWT Nurse team. We know all about prevention in our working environment but are not perhaps as diligent when it comes to ourselves. Keeping as healthy as we can is fundamental to our working lives and family lives and ultimately our future. So please do watch out for our Health Checks and drop in if you can. Ear, Blood Pressure, Cholesterol, and Diabetes checks are available and is free.

Meantime enjoy the sunshine when it arrives and as we witness an important day in our history on the 6th May, we wish His Majesty King Charles III all the very best in his coronation and reign.
