2018 Review

2018 began with sadness and tragedy, and we remember those we have lost within the Gamekeeping Community. We have risen to the challenge, coming together in “Raising the Game” to address mental health problems and make a difference. As part of this initiative we began “Stag Training”, which continues around the country in 2019, with […]

Christmas Message

Christmas night is a time of reflection after a hectic day of family celebrations or perhaps a solitary day or perhaps a working day – there are certainly always jobs to do whether feeding round, seeing to the dogs or indoors with a lunch to prepare. For the Gamekeepers’ Welfare Trust it is a time […]

Blustery showers in June

Date posted: June 2, 2015

It was wDon_Ford 02 larger fileith great regret we were given the news that Don Ford, former Trustee of the Gamekeepers’ Welfare Trust passed away after a short illness on May 29th 2015.

Don was a founding member of the Trust and was involved in the Gamekeeper’s Association for many years prior to its foundation in 1992. He was also a dedicated member of BASC Gamekeeping committee and Headkeeper at Winborne St Giles, being a gamekeeper all his working life.

Liked and respected by all who knew him, we will miss him dearly.  His wise counsel and dedication to gamekeeping in the old fashioned way; that is to say with courtesy and countryman skills endeared him to all.  That is not to say he did not keep up with changes and challenges along the way which indeed he did, with great energy and enthusiasm.

Rest in peace dear friend.

A New Year and a New Start!

September 17

As I write this note the trees are turning and the swallows on their way South with partridge in every hedgerow and pheasants awandering! Grouse days have been fruitful and frustrating for nearby moors, with fog and muggy weather on some days and cool conditions on others.  Par for the course, but always good to […]
