Game Bird of the Year PDF Print E-mail

In the autumn of 2009 The Game Bird of the Year was launched.

The Award was devised by Lady Scott, a GWT Trustee, to recognise the extensive support of wives/partners/daughters or female friends of gamekeepers across the UK.

Nominations were sent to Shooting Times and Barbour teamed up with the Gamekeepers’ Welfare Trust to provide a fitting prize for the winner.  Barbour are contributing by providing a Shooting Jacket, GCWT by providing two complimentary tickets and Lady Scott the Lady Scott GWT Rose Bowl to the winner.

We have a worthy winner in Angela Phimister, who lives and works in the Scottish Highlands, with her partner Dougie Lippe on a remote estate, only accessible by boat.  She provides lunches to shooting parties, stalkers, and ghillies, helps with heather burning, daily tasks and spring cleaning the lodge which has to be accomplished without mains electricity.  She is well known in helping anyone who needs a hand, provides baking for charity clay shoots and is generally invaluable to everyone.

Helen Benson GWT said “It is immensely rewarding to give recognition to the unseen work of the partner of a gamekeeper/stalker who gives so much to ensure a sporting estate runs smoothly throughout the year.”
