Message from Trust Chairman - Lord Aylesford PDF Print E-mail

Historically long term employees on traditional farms and estates were, in the majority of cases, looked after in their retirement having forsaken higher salaries and pension schemes for job satisfaction and the rural life.  The pension typically included rent-free or subsidised accommodation.

The challenges in the 21st century are different.  The proliferation of shoots which are often transient in nature and with an increasingly mobile workforce means that employees are even more exposed in the event of illness or accident.  Problems with accommodation are particularly prevalent at the present time with the soaring property prices.  The outlook for those who have always been in tied accommodation and who need to find somewhere for their retirement looks bleak.

The Trust has always been able to help in small but useful ways usually with material items that have improved the quality of life of the applicant.  It has become clear recently that there is a significant increase in calls from people with various stress related problems and requests for help or information.  To meet this demand the Trust is delighted to have teamed up with the Gamekeepers Welfare Network and is determined to raise sufficient funds to expand the Network so that help from people who understand the particular problems the gamekeeping profession faces is only a phone call away.

The Trustees are grateful to past benefactors and would urge both you and new donors to help us develop the work of the Trust.   Many Thanks”.
